![]() To accomplish this I filled the hollow paper spikes with resin so that they became solid and could be further rounded using a dremel. ![]() I wanted the spikes to look like they had been hand-forged by orcs in a dungeon somewhere. The original paper model had very square-shaped spikes since it had to be folded out of paper. You’ll also notice that the “spikes” protruding from the crown have been shaped and rounded. I added a few small holes which can be seen in the film (from corrosion or rust) as well as a few long, straight cut marks to look like he had been whacked in the head with a sword a few times. To do this I cut small V-shaped notches out of the edges at random places and in random sizes using a dremel with a cutting wheel attachment. Other fillers are either too flexible (your final painted surface will crack) or too rigid (your final paint will also crack as the piece flexes slightly).Īt this point I also started to add “battle damage”. Also, I feel that Bondo is the best filler to use on a project like this because it dries super-hard and is sandable/shapable. ![]() I will say that like fiberglass, it is messy and toxic, so wear protective clothing and a good-quality respirator. I won’t detail the application of Bondo here because there are many good tutorials online that show you how to mix and apply it–the steps would be the same for any project.
